In the Spring of 2004, I acquired Elke from Jan Burke at Miracle Shilohs (with whom I co-own her), for the purpose of training her to be my service dog.

Now two years of age, Elke is so tuned in to my needs that she runs to my side if I make a false step or bump my knee. Elke helps me maneuver on the stairs in the dark, fetches my slippers, assists me when getting on or off a couch or chair, and in and out of bed and the bathtub when my back is in spasm.

She is also learning how to take laundry out of the dryer, as it is difficult for me to bend.

Elke exudes empathy, and is everybody's friend. She truly helps me to live a more independent life!

I love knowing that I have this beautiful and loving girl, ready to help me when I need assistance, and by my side when I need a friend.
